Wallace Clan
Crest and Tartan
Richard Wallace acquired lands in Ayrshire in the 12th century and his son Henry acquired lands in Renfrewshire. In the late 13th century the Wallaces refused homage to Edward I. Sir William led a band of patriots who harried the English. So persistant were these raids that the English grew to hate and fear him. His bold opposition inspired large numbers to the cause of Scottish Independence. Sir William Wallace, the Scottish Patriot was betrayed and taken to the Tower of London where he was executed in 1305.
