Stewart ClanCrest and Tartan
Walter Fitz-Alan (son of Alan) served as High Stewart (steward) to King David I. Walter III also High Stewart of Scotland made the title his surname. The 6th Stewart led his men in the field at Bannockburn, later marring Princess Marjory, daughter of King Robert the Bruce. Their son ascended the throne as Robert II thus began the Royal House of Stewart. Motto “Virescit Vulnere Virtus” (Courage grows strong at the wound)
