MacDougall
The Celtic Clan MacDougall was for so long a dominant force in the western land. They descend from Dugall the eldest son of Somerled of the Isles. The Lords of Lorn opposed the Bruce. In the desperate battle at Dalree Bruce was nearly slain by three MacDougalls who swore their life or his. The first assailant was struck down by Bruce’s mighty axe. A second clung to Bruce’s horse and a third grasped Bruce’s cloak in his efforts to unseat the King. The two paid with their lives but the cloak and brooch was torn from the fleeing king. The famous Brooch of Lorn is a treasured possession of Clan MacDougall.
