Lamont Clan
Crest and Tartan
One of Scotland’s oldest clans and of pure Celtic lineage is the Lamonts. They descend directly from the O’Neil kings of Ulster. Their lands lie in the West Highlands where they have long held the lands of Cowal in Argyll. Many ancient ruins there are the remains of strongholds and castles built to secure their holdings. Sir Colin Campbell assisted King Robert II rise to the throne in 1371. He was made keeper of his royal castle in Dunoon. As Campbell’s fortunes rose the Lamonts lost ground in the district and a long feud followed.
