Gunn Clan
Crest and Tartan
This clan descends from the Viking King Olaf the Black in the late 13th Century. Prince Gunni (which means war) assembles land surrounding Caithness. Gunns soon seek to expand their holdings south and west in the areas occupied by Sutherlands and MacKays. In the mid 15th Century a long blood feud with the Keiths was to be settled on a field of honor with champions mounted on twelve horses. The treacherous Keiths mounted two men per horse for the duel. True to their Viking roots the Gunns fought viciously despite the odds. George, Chief of Clan Gunn and four of his sons perished in the fight. One hundred years later William settles the score in Highland fashion by killing Keith of Akergill, his son and twelve Keith clansmen at Drummoy.
