Ferguson Clan
Crest and Tartan
The sons of Fergus as the name implies are Irish Celts. Fergus, an Irish chief settled Kintyre in the sixth century establishing the kingdom of Dalriada on Scotland’s west coast. He brought the stone of Scone which became the coronation stone for Scottish kings. In the ninth century the Pictish King Angus MacFergus observed a powerful omen before a battle with a superior number of Northumbrian warriors. A white saltire cross appeared in the sky before the battle. This was taken as a sign of favor and the Scots soundly defeated their foes. Angus adopted the white saltire on a sky blue field as his personal banner. It was adopted as the flag of Scotland.
