With the decline of the powerful Comyns of Badenoch the Davidsons sought allies in clan MacKintosh and thus became associated with the Clan Chattan confederation around 1350. This caused a simmering rivalry with the MacPhersons. Camerons refused to pay rents owed to the MacKenzies and the dispute was taken to the field of battle. As the Camerons drew before Clan Chattan’s forces the MacPhersons quit the field over the old dispute with the Davidsons. Clan Chattan suffered defeat due to the MacPhersons cowardice or avarice.
