Crest and Tartan
Following the Norman Conquest in the 12th century “Comyns” occupied lands in Badenoch. The powerful John III, Lord of Badenoch known widely as “Red Comyn” alternatively supported and opposed Robert the Bruce in the wars for Scottish Independence. He was killed by Bruce’s close followers in 1306. Comyns lost land but remained numerous in north-east Scotland. In the 15th and 16th centuries the clan participated in public affairs and their fortunes in spite of a feud with clan Brodie.
