Chisholm Clan
Crest and Tartan
Of Norman origin clan Chisholm’s are in Roxburgh and Berwick by the 13th century. The ancestral home of the chiefs Erchless Castle is no longer owned by the clan. The Chisholms fought under the Earl of Mar in the Jacobite Rising of 1715. Their estates were forfeited but restored to them in 1727. They supported Prince Charlie in 1745. After the Battle of Culloden a Chisholm and six other loyal followers hid the Prince from government troops in Glenmoriston cave. They later escaped across the moors to Arisaig.
