Armstrong ClanClan Crest and Tartan
A very early clan to inhabit the Scottish border country, the name Armstrong first occurs is Liddensdale which is far south of today’s border. The heroic tale of a brawny clansman saving his king unhorsed in battle by lifting him up is probably more fanciful than factual. Upon closed scrutiny it occurs too late in history to be convincing. The name was established well before mediaeval times, the setting of our hero’s tale. Motto “Invictus Maneo” (I remain unvanquished) |
